The great interest of descendants of Jews formerly living in East Prussia in the history of their ancestors, and the curiosity of the young generation currently living in the Lithuanian, Polish and Russian part of the former region of East Prussia about the earlier Jewish population of East Prussia and their explusion led us, along with friends sharing this interest, to found a society on 5 September 2004 in Berlin with the following name:

Das große Interesse, das einerseits Nachfahren von Juden, die seinerzeit in Ostpreussen lebten, an der Geschichte ihrer Vorfahren hegen und die vielen Fragen, die besonders intensiv von der jungen Generation, die heute im litauischen, polnischen und russischen Teil der ehemaligen Region Ostpreussen zur früheren jüdischen Bevölkerung Ostpreussens und auch zu ihrer Vertreibung gestellt werden, hat uns bewogen, gemeinsam mit interssierten Freunden am 5. September 2004 in Berlin einen Verein mit folgendem Namen zu gründen:

Die Ausstellung "Juden in Tilsit" wurde bis zum 26. August 2011 im Rathaus der Stadt Kiel (Landeshauptstadt Schleswig Holstein) gezeigt.
The Exhibition "Jews in Tilsit" was shown till 26th of August 2011 in the town hall of Kiel (North-Germany).

Between Nimmersatt at the Baltic Sea and Wystiten there is one of the most interesting border regions of Central Europe. There where Lithuania, Poland and the Kaliningrad Oblast encounter each other, the most different processes of modernization, mobilization and migration took place in the 19th and the first part of the 20th century. From time to time the region was strict border, a sill or simply a space for mixed cultures and symbiosis.
The book presents the history of the Jews in the Prussian / German-Russian / Lithuanian border region. It shows how a border does not work only as a territorial limit, but as well tries to show and explain border phenomena, the special Jewish history of the region and the way of life and potential of a peripheral region as it was in relation to Berlin, Moscow and Vilnius.
